Self play WoW: how the Normal run works
Choosing to self play WoW for this raid means you log in on your own character and join the group yourself. You still go through the full 12 boss clear, but the group does the heavy lifting while you collect personal loot.
The one rule that matters is the single hit on every boss. Skip a boss without tagging it and you are not eligible for its drops, so nothing from that kill counts toward your gear total.
What a self play run looks like in practice
A full Normal clear of Ny'alotha usually takes around 2 to 3 hours with a coordinated group. Wall of the Waking and the first few encounters go fast, while the later fights such as Il'gynoth and Carapace of N'Zoth take longer because of mechanics and positioning.
Expect roughly 1 to 2 pieces of loot per boss on average, so a run does not fill all 15 slots at once. Most players need several clears before every slot sits at 445 or higher.
- Bring your usual spec and gear, since the raid does not check your item level at the door.
- Stay inside the boss room until the kill is confirmed.
- Keep your bags clear, because a full inventory can block bonus roll rewards.
Where this raid sits in your gear path
Normal is the entry point. If you want higher item levels later, the ny alotha Heroic version is the natural next step, and it also drops extra encrypted ny alotha text for upgrading your essence ranks faster.
Players coming from the previous tier often compare the two raids. The battle of dazar alor item level range is lower than what Ny'alotha Normal gives you, so clearing Ny'alotha first is the better use of your time if you are still fresh at level 120.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to kill every boss to get loot?
You need at least one hit on each boss to be eligible for its drops. The kill itself is handled by the group. Missing even one boss means you lose that boss's loot chance for the run.
Can I trade the items I receive?
Trading follows the standard Battle for Azeroth rules. Only items with a lower item level than what you already wear in that slot can be passed on. Early in a raid's life this limit is tighter, so expect fewer trades in the first weeks.
How many runs does it take to fill every slot?
It varies with luck, but most characters need between 3 and 6 clears to cover all 15 slots at 445 or better. Items that are not upgrades still count toward progress, which shortens the total a little.
Is the Heart of Azeroth affected by this raid?
Yes. The Azerite dropped during the clear raises your Heart of Azeroth level, which opens up more essence power. A single full run usually gives a noticeable jump, especially on an alt that is still low.
