Ny'alotha: what the raid is and where it sits

Ny'alotha, the Waking City, is the final raid of Battle for Azeroth, released in Patch 8.3 (Visions of N'Zoth). It holds 12 bosses and was the last tier before Shadowlands. If you are asking where Ny'alotha is, the short answer is that it is not on the normal world map. The city lies in a pocket of the Void, and you reach it through the Vision of Destiny and the Vale of Eternal Twilight in Uldum or the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, depending on the Alliance or Horde route.

Players who only want a quick look at the story should read the Ny'alotha lore guide, which covers the Black Empire, Wrathion's role and why N'Zoth hides inside the city.

WoW Ny'alotha: difficulty levels and lockouts

The raid ran on four difficulties: Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and Mythic. Heroic is the one that matters for gear, because it is the first level where 460+ pieces drop regularly. Lockouts reset weekly, so you get one clear per character each week.

Heroic group size is flexible, from 10 to 30 players. A full clear of the 12 bosses takes a well-organised group roughly 2 to 3 hours. Pick-up groups often need closer to 4.

Ny'alotha loot: what drops and from where

Loot is personal, so each boss gives you a chance at gear rather than a guaranteed piece. On Heroic you can expect items from 455 to 470 item level, with the last two bosses at the top of that range. Weapons, trinkets and Azerite armor with the strongest traits come mostly from the later fights.

  • Early bosses (Wrathion, Maut, Skitra): first upgrades, mostly 455 to 460.
  • Middle wing (Xanesh, Hivemind, Shad'har, Drest'agath): trinkets and the first useful Azerite pieces.
  • Final wing (Vexiona, Ra-den, Il'gynoth, Carapace, N'Zoth): the highest item levels and the cloak progress.

Corrupted gear is also tied to this tier. Corruption effects came from the Vision of Destiny content, not from raid bosses, but the two systems worked together for gearing. A character that wants every slot filled should look at Ny'alotha heroic full gear, which lays out the pieces by slot.

Heroic Ny'alotha carry: what to expect from a run

A heroic carry is a group clear where stronger players handle the mechanics and you just need to tag each boss. Most runs stop before the last fight. For the final encounter, see N'zoth heroic kill US if you play on American realms, or N'zoth heroic kill EU for European ones.

Three practical points before any run:

  • Your cloak must be at the right level, because it controls access to the last bosses.
  • Bring a character at level 120 with at least around 430 item level to avoid being one-shot by stray mechanics.
  • Do not expect every boss to drop something. Four to six items per full clear is a normal result.

Ny'alotha carry versus clearing it yourself

Doing it yourself is cheaper in time only if you already know the fights. Learning the tactics on Heroic costs many wipes, and groups often disband after the third boss. A carry saves that, but you also skip the learning.

In 2026 the raid is old content. Most players run it for transmog, mounts, the Azerite Essence and achievements, not for power, so the lack of pressure makes it easy to clear with a small group once you outlevel it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Ny'alotha?

It is a city inside the Void, tied to the old god N'Zoth. You enter through a portal in Uldum or the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, after unlocking the Visions content. It does not appear on any regular zone map.

How many bosses are in Ny'alotha?

There are 12 bosses, from Wrathion to N'Zoth, the Corruptor. They are grouped into several wings that open in order. Heroic and Mythic use the same encounters with harder mechanics.

What item level does Heroic Ny'alotha drop?

Heroic loot starts around 455 and reaches 470 from the last bosses. Raid Finder and Normal drop lower tiers. Titanforging can push some pieces higher.

Can I still run Ny'alotha in 2026?

Yes, it is available as old content and can be cleared solo at high level on some difficulties. Heroic and Mythic lockouts still follow the weekly reset. Group size is flexible, so small teams can finish it.
