New World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth playable Allied Races are here and ready to aid heroes of Azeroth in the upcoming battles. In Battle for Azeroth in addition to 4 Legion Allied Races - 4 new playable races can be recruited (2 races per each faction): Zandalari Troll and Mag'har Orc on the Horde side and Dark Iron Dwarves and Kul Tiran Human on the Alliance side respectfully, granting players new gaming experience via refreshed leveling zones and new race/class combinations. Dark Iron Dwarves and Mag'har Orcs will be available to unlock and play right after BFA release with Zandalari Troll and Kul Tiran Human aiding their factions some time later in the following patch.

BFA Allied Races: What Each One Needs

The four BFA allied races all ask for different things, and the gap is bigger than most players expect. Dark Iron Dwarves and Mag'har Orcs ship with a reputation and questline requirement, while Zandalari Trolls and Kul Tiran Humans need a high-level Heart of Azeroth and a long war campaign chain. Plan around the slowest one if you want more than a single race.

New Races BFA Added Beyond the Core Four

Battle for Azeroth was the expansion that introduced the second wave of allied races. The first four came from Legion (Nightborne, Highmountain Tauren, Void Elf, Lightforged Draenei). BFA added four more, then Patch 8.2 and 8.3 brought Mechagnome and Vulpera. If you are chasing those two, the Mechagnome allied race unlock and the Vulpera allied race unlock each have their own prerequisites, and neither is quick.

BFA Playable Races: Faction Split

  • Horde: Mag'har Orc, Zandalari Troll, Vulpera
  • Alliance: Dark Iron Dwarf, Kul Tiran Human, Mechagnome

Every one of them starts at level 10 and plays through a reworked starting zone. Class choices differ per race, so check the combination before you commit time.

BFA Mag'har Orcs: The Practical Route

Mag'har Orcs need Exalted with the Mag'har Expedition, which means clearing Frostfire Ridge, Nagrand and Gorgrond content from Draenor. Expect roughly 40 to 60 hours of steady play. The race is a good pick for Warriors and Shamans, and the Warsong heritage armor comes at level 120.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play more than one allied race on the same account?

Yes. Once a race is unlocked, you can create as many characters of it as your realm slots allow. The unlock is account wide, so alts on the same faction use it too.

Do I need a level 120 character first?

For Dark Iron Dwarves and Mag'har Orcs, yes, the usual route is a level 120 character on the matching faction. Zandalari Trolls and Kul Tiran Humans have extra story requirements on top of that.

Is an early access service worth it?

It saves time if you lack the weeks the questlines take. The allied races early access boost is one option, and the broader Battle for Azeroth boosts cover other goals. Prices run from about $150 for a full set, so compare that with the hours you would spend yourself.

Which allied race is the quickest to get?

Dark Iron Dwarf is usually the fastest, since its reputation grind is shorter than the others. Plan on about two weeks of regular play.
